Sources of Consumer Health Data
Most consumer health data comes directly from you, through the Fawn app, our website, or our onboarding questionnaires.
In addition, if you choose to connect Fawn to a health or fitness platform provided by your device or operating system — including Apple Health on iOS and Health Connect on Android — or to another app, wearable, scale, or service you use, we may receive consumer health data from that source with your permission. These connections are optional and off until you turn them on, and you can revoke them at any time in your device or platform settings. We do not purchase consumer health data, and we do not obtain it from data brokers.
Some of the answers you give in our web onboarding questionnaire are processed only in your browser. Others are transmitted to us and stored on your account record so that we can provide, set up, and personalize your Fawn experience. You may delete this data at any time by deleting your account.
Purposes for Collection
We collect and use the categories of consumer health data described above for the following purposes:
- To provide, operate, and maintain the health tracking functionality of the app
- To create, administer, and set up your account across our website and the app
- To personalize your experience, including the content, guidance, plans, and communications we present to you
- To power the AI companion feature (personalized chat and voice responses based on your health context)
- To analyze meal photos for nutritional estimation
- To generate health reports at your request
- To sync your health data across your devices, including through a private cloud account provided by your device platform (such as iCloud on Apple devices)
- To communicate with you about your account, your subscription, and how to get the most out of Fawn
- To provide customer support, maintain the security of our services, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations
- To create de-identified and aggregated data, which we use as described under "De-Identification of Consumer Health Data" below
Categories of Consumer Health Data Shared
Any of the categories of consumer health data described above may be shared with the categories of third parties described below, for the purposes described in this policy.
Categories of Third Parties and Specific Affiliates Receiving Health Data
We do not currently share consumer health data with any affiliate. We share consumer health data with the following categories of third parties, each of which processes it solely on our behalf, under contract, as a processor, and none of which is permitted to use it for its own purposes:
| Category of Third Party | Health Data Received |
|---|---|
| Artificial intelligence and machine learning providers | Health context, messages, search queries, voice audio, and meal photos submitted to AI features |
| Cloud storage, database, and hosting providers | Health tracking data, account records, and onboarding questionnaire responses |
| Communications and email delivery providers | Account, service, and other messages we send you |
| Customer support, security, and fraud prevention providers | Information you choose to include when you contact us, and information needed to secure our services |
We may add, replace, or remove individual service providers within these categories from time to time without updating this policy, provided the category and purpose remain as described.
We do not sell consumer health data. We do not share consumer health data with advertising networks or data brokers, and we do not share it with analytics providers in a form that identifies you. Only non-health conversion and subscription events (such as purchase completion, subscription start, or trial conversion, which may include the associated transaction amount) are shared with advertising measurement providers.
De-Identification of Consumer Health Data
We may de-identify, anonymize, or aggregate any consumer health data we collect by removing or altering information that could reasonably be used to identify you or your device. Once consumer health data has been de-identified such that it can no longer reasonably be linked to or associated with a particular consumer, it is no longer consumer health data as defined under the Washington My Health My Data Act (RCW 19.373) or other applicable law.
We may use, create, and disclose de-identified data for any purpose not prohibited by applicable law, including but not limited to research, analytics, product improvement, AI model development and training, marketing, publishing aggregate wellness and health trends, and sharing with or selling to third parties, including advertisers, promotional partners, sponsors, researchers, and business partners.
We maintain a policy of not attempting to re-identify de-identified data, and we contractually require any third-party recipients of de-identified data to refrain from attempting to re-identify it and to satisfy equivalent de-identification safeguards.
De-identified data is retained indefinitely and is not subject to access, correction, or deletion requests, as it can no longer be reasonably linked to an individual consumer.
